7 Peveril Drive

Prominently located close to southern entrance of The Park, c1886-88. Central section of larger building accommodating three houses (6, 7 and ‘Ferndene’). Building is very similar in form and scale to adjacent building which also accommodates three houses (1, 2 and 3). In single household use. Area had been previously used for garden allotments, known as Fishpond Gardens, since beginning of 19c. Three storeys including attic space with two storey rear wing. Single storey flat roofed pointed bay on front facade. Originally, outbuilding / privy in back garden area. Plain red brick facades with string course and projecting brick headers at first floor storey height level. Chamfered brick reveals to some window openings. Large areas of the rear brick facades have now been painted white. Stone dressings to main door and window apertures including some complete stone surrounds, otherwise mainly chamfered lintels and sills. The stonework has now been painted. Saddleback roof with gabled dormer on front facades and hipped dormer on rear facade. Clay plain tiles with bonnet hip tiles and ornamental, perforated clay ridge tiles and finials. Painted, projecting wooden eaves and bargeboards at gables. Tie detail at bargeboards. Prominent brick chimney stacks with string course, corbelled brick caps and buff fireclay louvred chimney pots. A number of pots are missing. Some original rainwater fittings have been replaced. Original casement windows on front facade with single transoms and double mullions plus twin casements with small pane glazing bars at second floor level. Also, sash windows with glazing bars mainly at rear. Some alterations to windows. Original panelled main entrance door. No significant alterations or extensions. Original brick boundary wall and gate piers to Peveril Drive with plinth, saddleback copings and stone caps to gate piers. Rear access to back garden area via communal passageway.
