5 Tattershall Drive

One of a pair of three storey houses (with 3 Tattershall Drive), built c1873 similar to a pair at 1Tattershall Drive and 2 Park Drive. Also similar in styling and details with 4 and 6 Park Drive. In single household use. House once occupied by Roy Henderson (1899-2000) popular English baritone in 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. Alterations to original outbuildings in rear yard area. Two flat roofed garages (late 20c) added on Holles Crescent boundary. Original stable and carriage building at bottom of garden now converted into two separate dwellings and much altered. Red brick facades with stone door and window surrounds. Two storey canted window bays on front and garden facing facades with flat lead roofs and low parapets. Various brickwork features including dentillation at gable verges and eaves plus blue brick string courses with nailhead mouldings adding decorative detail to bay parapets. Segmental arched heads to rear window openings with alternating buff and blue brick voussoirs. Parts of brickwork facades in rear yard area now painted or rendered. Stone surrounds to main openings, mostly rectangular with segmental and semicircular arched heads to some smaller openings. Stonework relatively plain with splay reveals plus mouldings to cornice heads on bays, hoodmoulds and door architraves. Elaborate stonework surround to six panel main entrance door, flanked by shaft/pilasters with shaped head and carved brackets to flat roofed canopy. Stonework now painted. Double pitched roof with gables and hips. Original slate roof replaced with tiles c1970-80. Red brick chimney stack with red and blue brick string courses and mouldings at base of cap. Mainly buff coloured ‘crown’ chimney pots. Alterations to second stack and pots replaced. Original c.i. rainwater fittings replaced. Sash windows generally. Original red brick boundary walls to Tattershall Drive and Holles Crescent with Bulwell stone plinth, blue brick string courses and details plus half round brick copings. Part of original wall to Holles Crescent removed when garages were added.
