1b Hamilton Drive

One of a pair of semi-detached houses, (1b and 1c), c1886-1890. Area previously used, since beginning of 19c, for garden allotments known as Fishpond Gardens. In single household use. Significant part of existing side garden area to house previously used for rear access to adjacent (now converted) former mews building located between back of house and Hope Drive. Two storeys with projecting side wing. Single storey flat roofed canted bay on front facade. Originally, outbuilding / privy in back garden / yard area. Red brick facades with range of brick / terracotta ornamentation including moulded projections with dentils at eaves and gable verges, string courses of varying detail plus prominent decorative corrugated brick band on gables. Chamfered brick reveals to a number of openings. Stone surrounds to window openings on front facade with moulded reveals and stone shaft mullion with capital at first floor level. Stone sills and chamfered lintels to other window openings, some with brick mullions. Stonework now painted. Gabled roof. Clay plain tiles and ridge tiles. Lean-to canopy with plain tiles supported on wooden brackets over main entrance doorway on side facade. Original rainwater fittings replaced. Originally, two brick stacks with buff ‘crown’ pots. Generally original sash windows with glazing bars. Original brick plinth with stone copings to boundary wall adjacent to Hamilton Drive. Original railings replaced and enlarged opening formed to allow off street parking on part of former garden area.
