33 Lenton Avenue

Detached house, also known as ‘Newlands’, c1875. Similar to No.31 ‘Greylands’. Prominent corner position. Now converted into flats. Two storeys plus attics and cellars. Original single storey, pitched roof extension adjacent to Lenton Avenue. Small original outbuildings built up against boundary wall adjacent to No.31 Lenton Avenue. Pitched roof garage building added c1950 in front yard area and original gate opening widened to allow car access. Rendered facades with stone plinth, door and window surrounds, string courses and other decorative features. The stonework has been coated or painted. Two storey canted window bay facing garden adjacent to recessed verandah at first floor level. Semicircular arched opening to verandah supported on column pilasters with ornamental stone balustrading. Moulded stonework surrounds to window openings, mainly on garden facing facade, with pediments over first floor windows on canted bay. Plain rendered reveals to window openings elsewhere, some with semicircular arched heads. A number of window alterations and additions including two oriel windows on south facing facade. Prominent main entrance doorway on side facade with moulded stonework surround and carved frieze. New doorway access to upper flat formed at first floor level on south facade with external steel staircase. Slate roof with projecting gables and bargeboards. Rendered chimney stacks with altered caps and some replaced chimney pots. A number of original rainwater fittings have been replaced. Sash windows generally with a number of alterations. Panelled double doors to main entrance, half glazed with semicircular head. Original gate piers and brick boundary wall with stone plinth to Lenton Avenue and Cavendish Road West. Original brick and brick/stone garden wall boundary with No.31 Lenton Avenue. Later gate opening formed in boundary wall to Lenton Avenue, adjacent to No.31.
