8 Lenton Road

Part of a group of similarly styled houses on triangular plot of land enclosed by Lenton Road, Park Drive and Holles Crescent. Built c1865-70, possibly by John Loverseed with architects Hine & Evans. Semi-detached and in single household use. Three storeys plus basement/cellars. Flat roofed garage added. Later single storey brick lean-to extension with slate roof added. Red brick facades with stone dressings. Decorative brickwork features include buff brick string courses, band courses of small, rectangular buff brick recessed panels and buff brick diaper pattern on entrance facade. Bull nosed brick detail at eaves and gable verges. Two storey canted window bays on front and side facades with slate, hipped roofs. Projecting brick plinth at base of facades with stone capping. Combination of openings, some with segmental or semicircular arched heads. Stone surrounds to original doors and windows. Stonework generally plain with chamfered reveals and lintels, mouldings added to cornice detail on bays and main entrance doorway. Stonework now painted. Double pitch slate roofs at varying levels with gables. Clay ridge tiles and lead valleys. Original red brick chimney stacks with stone capped plinths, corbelled brick heads and buff ‘crown’ pots. Original c.i. rainwater fittings have been replaced and further pipes added. Sash windows generally, some with glazing bars. Original brick and stone boundary wall, (together with boundary wall of No.5 Holles Crescent), in prominent position at junction of Lenton Road and Holles Crescent. Original brickwork to part of boundary wall above stone plinth now rendered and painted. Similarly, original brick and stone gate piers have also been rendered. Part of original boundary wall lost when garage added.
