9 Lenton Road

Detached house, also known as ‘Fern Lodge’, built c1865 with no significant extensions to the original building apart from a flat roofed glazed porch added to the road facing facade in recent years. Original outbuildings adjacent to the Lenton Road boundary have been altered and converted for garage use. Red brick facades with ornamental brick detailing including corbelled dentilation at eaves and gable verges, forming open pediments, with a combination of projecting, flush or inset red and blue brick string courses at storey height levels. Single storey canted brick door and window bay on garden elevation plus ground floor pointed window bay on east facing facade. The canted bay may originally have been flat roofed. A number of the original door and window openings have semicircular arched heads with alternating red and blue brick voussoirs and plain stone keystones. Remaining original openings have stone segmental or shaped square lintels and sills. All the stonework is now painted. Pitched roofed timber canopy on brackets over main entrance door on side elevation is a later addition. Ground floor brick facades facing east and towards Lenton Road have been painted or rendered. Gabled roof with clay plain tiles and ridge tiles, some of which have been removed. Brick stacks have been partly taken down and rebuilt. Original c.i.rainwater fittings have been replaced with aluminium. Original sash windows generally, in singles or pairs with brick mullions. A number of the windows have single central glazing bars. Alterations to original external doors. Large original garden survives apart from a small rectangular area adjacent to Kenilworth Road which has been reshaped and enclosed c1890 by a curved stone boundary wall with rear entrance gate and piers. Original brick boundary wall adjacent to Peveril House survives and brick garden wall adjacent to 13 Lenton Road has been partially rebuilt. Original brick boundary wall adjacent to Lenton Road also survives but has been partially demolished to form a drive access.
