29 Lenton Road

Early detached house c1859-60, probably by architects Hine & Evans. House now converted into three flats. Two storeys plus basement and attic storey. Red brick with ashlar dressings and hipped slate roof. First occupant of house was William Wright, lace manufacturer. Drive formed at side of garden to create access to 2no. separate dwellings, built c1970 in area once used as allotment gardens. 20c additions include flat roofed garage building adjacent to Lenton Road and two storey hipped side extension behind garage. Panelled main entrance door with overlight at centre of road front facade, flanked by transomed side lights all within moulded stone surround with trefoil arched heads and broken arch pediment. To left, single storey canted stone window bay with balustrade. Above, tripartite sash window at first floor plus brick gabled dormer window at attic level with altered window opening. To right of main entrance, three storey square tower with pyramidal slate roof. To right again, two storey projecting wing with hipped slate roof and gabled dormer. Single storey canted stone window bay with balustrade on garden front. To left, stone framed door opening with overlight and side lights. Tripartite sash window openings at first floor level either side of single window opening with trefoil arched head. Twin gabled dormer windows on garden front with altered window openings. Later flat roofed dormer window added between gabled dormers. Single storey square window bay with balustrade across left corner of garden front. Ashlar surrounds to doors and windows. Also, stone plinths, moulded copings and brackets plus decorative square inset panel band with moulded string course and cornice at eaves. Stonework now painted. Steeply pitched slate hipped roof with red brick side wall stacks, now altered. Mainly glazing bar sash windows with a number of alterations and additions. Coursed rubble stone plinth to boundary wall on road front with ashlar copings and added railings. Small part of garden area subdivided to provide separate outdoor amenity space for one flat.
