31 Lenton Road
Detached house c1856 by architects Hine & Evans. Formerly known as Leslie Villa. Now converted into flats. One of a group of early houses on Lenton Road by Hine & Evans. At the time the house was built, it was envisaged that Clifton Terrace would be extended to link Park Ravine with Hermitage Walk and run adjacent to boundary at bottom of garden. However, this plan was never implemented. Two storeys plus basement and attics. Red brick with stone dressings and hipped slate roof. Later single storey side extensions plus mid 20c flat roofed garage adjacent to Lenton Road. Garages also added adjacent to stone retaining wall boundary at bottom of garden. Central doorway with segment arched overlight on Lenton Road front with glazing bar sash window to left. To right of doorway, original segment arched window opening replaced by flat roofed, early 20c bow window bay with leaded glazing. Three segment arched glazing bar sashes above. Main entrance doorway on Hermitage Walk front flanked by small sash windows and chimney stacks. Three windows at first floor level above, all with segment arched heads, stone surrounds and plain or glazing bar sashes. Pair of two storey canted window bays on garden front with three segment arched windows at each level. Moulded stone surrounds to all original openings. Sashes with leaded glazing to original first floor opening on east facing facade. Decorative banding at first floor and eaves levels with square inset brick or stone tile panels between parallel buff brick courses. Stone cornice and sill bands to canted bays plus moulded eaves cornice. Most of stonework now painted. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge and hip tiles and overhanging eaves. 4no. red brick side wall chimney stacks with chamfered stone plinth band, separated flues, buff brick string courses and corbelled brick and stone caps. One stack has been altered. Dormer windows with round arched window openings and segmental pediments. Roof windows added. Prominent red brick boundary wall adjacent to Hermitage Walk with buff brick and stone plinth, decorative banding, chamfered stone coping plus balustrading adjacent to house. Red and buff brick square piers with chamfered stone plinth band and moulded stone caps. Later section of red brick boundary wall adjacent to Lenton Road with blue brick band and chamfered stone coping.
