Detached house c1875, possibly by architect George Hine. Now converted into flats. Two storeys plus basement and attics. Red brick with ashlar dressings and hipped and gabled slate roof. Substantial alterations to original side extension, including garage. Two storey canted window bay with hipped roof and two storey gabled rectangular bay on garden front. On Newcastle Circus facade, single storey canted window bay with hipped roof plus first floor canted oriel bay with hipped lead roof seated on brick and stone pier. Full height gabled main entrance bay adjacent to Maxtoke Road. Conservatory on garden front. Variety of decorative brickwork details including corbelled and moulded eaves and gable verges, some with brackets; moulded pointed arched heads to main entrance door and adjacent window; moulded shafts to a number of window openings plus string courses and ornamental tile panels. Stonework features include moulded lintels and sills to window openings generally; window frames with pointed arches, mullions and transoms, stone dressings to oriel window base and supporting pier; hoodmoulds, floriated bosses and capitals plus kneelers and copings to gables and chimney stacks. Slate roof with clay ridge tiles and finial plus lead hips and valleys. Red brick side wall chimney stacks with corbelled caps and crown chimney pots. Roof windows added. Original rainwater fittings replaced and further pipework added.Casement windows generally plus a number of leaded lights. Double leaf main entrance door with fielded panels. Red brick boundary wall with coursed rubble stone plinth enclosing garden adjacent to Maxtoke Road and Clumber Crescent South. Blue brick banding to garden wall plus saddleback copings. Gated opening with square red brick piers and stone plinth and caps. Coursed rubble stone plinth with square, red brick piers and railing panels to boundary wall adjacent to main entrance and on Newcastle Circus. Blue brick plinth and string courses to red brick piers plus stone pyramidal caps. Former gated opening to side entrance off Newcastle Circus now enlarged for car access.
