10 Barrack Lane

One of a pair of semidetached houses c1910, now converted into flats. Barrack Lane, previously named Barrack Road, formed main access to Army Barracks in The Park from Derby Road. Barracks, built 1793 demolished c1870, replaced by sections of new estate roads Pelham Crescent and Cavendish Crescent North. Site of house and number of other houses on Barrack Lane previously used as allotment gardens. Two storeys plus basement and attics. Red brick and rendered facades with hipped and gabled plain tile roofs. Original single storey wing on road front with hipped plain tile roof. Single storey porch with hipped plain tile roof on road front, now altered. Projecting central bay on road front with gabled attic storey combined with adjacent house. Canted window bay on garden front. Combination of brick plus part brick/part rendered facades plus storey height brick plinths and rendered upper storeys with moulded brick string course forming render stop. Plain tile roof with half hips, gables and overhanging eaves. Decorative ridge tiles and bonnet tile hips. Painted bargeboards to gables. Red brick chimney stacks with string courses plus dentil detail to corbelled caps. Plain red clay roll top chimney pots. Original rainwater fittings replaced and further pipework added. Combination of glazing bar sash and casement windows, many with brick segment arched openings and stone sills. Part of original coursed rubble stone boundary wall adjacent to Barrack Lane removed to create access for car parking in former front garden area. Main garden slopes down to coursed rubble stone boundary wall on Harlaxton Drive with crow step gabled garage opening plus gate.
