Holly Lodge : Clumber Road West

Detached house c1875 with late 19c and 20c alterations and additions. Red brick with stone dressings and hipped slate roof. Two storeys plus basement and attic. Original house extended and converted into flats. Stable building converted for residential use and other original outbuildings adjacent to former stable building replaced by additional residential unit c1965-70. Part of large original garden area now separately developed for 4no. detached houses. Flat roofed, rectangular brick porch on main entrance front with round arched heads to panelled door overlight and side lights. Moulded stone surrounds to porch door and window openings. Stone quoins above plus string course, cornice, blocking course and segmental panel. Part of porch facade now rendered and painted. Stone dressed original openings on main entrance front of original house with plain and glazing bar sash windows. Some door and window alterations and additions. Pair of window bays on south garden front. To the left, flat roofed canted bay with 3no. plain sash windows at ground and first floor levels. Brick with stone surrounds and dressings. Garden bank previously concealing basement storey now partly excavated with door and windows added. Exposed basement walls rendered and painted. To the right, flat roofed rectangular bay with doorway at ground floor level. Plain and glazing bar sashes. This bay may be very early addition (Late 19c). Glazing bar sash window with stone surround between bays. Large two storey canted window bay with hipped roof on west garden front with, to the left, smaller and later two storey canted bay. Plain and glazing bar sash windows with stone surrounds. Mid-late 20c extensions abut west front. Bricked up first floor window opening with stone surround to north facing wing. Glazing bar sash windows with stone lintels and sills to other parts of north facade with a number of alterations and additions. Flat roofed dormer window and roof windows added. Hipped slate roof with painted overhanging eaves and moulded band. Side wall and ridge chimney stacks with string courses and corbelled caps. A number of stacks now altered. Originally, large glasshouse adjacent to main entrance gateway, now only tiled floor remains. Original brick (and stone?) boundary walls enclosing garden and yard with gate piers to main entrance on Clumber Road West. Walls now rendered and painted.
