117 Derby Road
One of very early group of houses in The Park c1828-30, (with Nos. 119, 121, 123 and 125 Derby Road). Possibly by architect P.F. Robinson. Regency style. Two storey original house now much altered with a number of single and double storey flat roofed extensions added at different times. Formerly known as Clinton Villa. Plan for alterations to house by Child and Sherwin for Mrs Child c1940. In single household use. Painted stucco facades. Hipped slate roof to original house with plain band in shallow relief and dentillation at overhanging eaves. Moulded architraves to original window openings. Symmetrical arrangement of three openings at ground and first floor levels on original front and rear facades. Cornices to opening surrounds on ground floor facing road. Originally, stucco facades may have been lined to imitate masonry joints. Flat roofed window bay has replaced original window opening on garden facing facade. Alterations to original double hung glazing bar sash windows have been replaced. Upper sections of all four original chimney stacks have been taken down. Lead flashings to roof hips. Original rainwater fittings replaced and further downpipes added. Original boundary wall and gate piers adjacent to Derby Road, now roughcast rendered. Terraced area adjacent to house on steeply sloping garden site. A row of garages has been built at bottom of original garden adjacent to Newcastle Drive, (formerly named Pelham Terrace).
